Labiaplasty

Tubal Reversal, Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty, is the surgical procedure to reduce the size of large or asymmetrical labia minora (the flattened folds of skin or "lips" surrounding the entrance to the vagina). As there is a significant variation in the size or amount of visible tissue in this area, it cannot be said that there is a normal amount or size of the labia minora for any woman. The medical term of labial hypertrophy refers to oversized labia minora. There are many factors affecting the size of these tissues. This condition may arise through normal developmental processes, or it can appear later in life with aging, trauma, or due to stretching during childbirth.

The condition of labial hypertrophy may commonly be associated with discomfort from pressure or rubbing. This discomfort may occur when wearing certain clothes, during sexual intercourse, or with exercise activities, such as riding a bicycle or running. Many patients relate that labial hypertrophy can cause self-consciousness, such as with a sexual partner or with wearing tight-fitting clothes. Labia reduction surgery is designed to treat this condition. Dr. Morice is one of the few surgeons in Louisiana who is experienced in Labiaplasty surgery.

Many factors can contribute to your confidence, sexuality, femininity, and overall sense of good health and hygiene. None of these is more personal and private than your genitalia. If labial hypertrophy has become a problem for you; then, after careful consideration, a thorough consultation with Dr. Morice can help you decide whether labiaplasty may be an appropriate solution for you. Although the majority of patients elect to have the surgery to reduce discomfort, it is considered a "cosmetic" procedure by insurance companies, so it is not covered by insurance. The results are permanent. As with any surgery, there are risks of unsatisfactory results or complications.

CANDIDATES FOR LABIAPLASTY INCLUDE WOMEN WHO:

  • Experience irritation from clothing
  • Experience difficulty with the proper fit of clothes
  • Have discomfort, such as rubbing of the labia minora, when engaging in sports or physical activities
  • Have physical discomfort of these tissues during sexual intercourse
  • Find that visible, enlarged labia are a source of embarrassment

INTENDED RESULTS

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape and reduce the external appearance of the labia. It is also designed to reduce the size and exposure of the labia minora so that they are at about the same level as the labia majora fullness on either side. Thus, it can reduce the exposure to irritation. Labiaplasty is not vaginal rejuvenation surgery. It is possible to have Labiaplasty as a combined procedure with Vaginal Rejuvenation, which is frequently done by Dr. Morice when requested.
